Canceling a Draft Asset

This article describes how users can cancel a draft asset.

Written by Bram Timmers

There are many reasons for which users may decide to cancel a draft they were working on. Perhaps they wish to pursue a new version instead of just making an edit - or perhaps they've decided to prioritize other content activities instead. Whatever the reason, it's important to know that canceling a draft asset is easily done.

  1. How can I cancel a draft version?

  2. What will happen to my canceled draft?

  3. Can I edit or restart a canceled asset?

1. How can I cancel a draft version?

To cancel a draft asset, simply open the action menu (...) next to the Asset Name, and select: 'Cancel this version'. A confirmation dialog will follow, where you're asked to confirm your choice to cancel the draft asset.

2. What will happen to my canceled draft?

When you confirm that you want to cancel a draft version - that asset version's status will change to 'Canceled'. Consequently, that canceled version will:

  • Show as read-only (the asset info and attachments are locked from editing)

  • The iteration menu is absent: no new iterations can be uploaded in this status

  • The canceled version will appear in the asset's version menu, alongside any potential earlier/later versions.

  • Any pending approval request will be canceled too. Approvers who come in via their notification will be informed upon landing, that the draft asset was canceled.

3. Can I edit or restart a canceled asset?

A cancelation can't be 'undone', and canceled assets are no longer editable as such. However, they do permit the user to start a new version off of it ('Create new version'), or to amend the asset's info ('Edit this version') by following the asset's action menu (...). So even though an asset version was canceled, it does not pose a blocker or dead-end street for further work.
