What is an Approval (work)flow, and where to use it?

Written by Bram Timmers

What is an approval workflow?

An approval workflow is a series of approval steps, through which you can get final approval for your draft asset. The amount of steps, their conditions and criteria, are configurable per workspace.

What are approval (work)flows used for?

Approvals are used to collect review decisions on draft versions before they can be released.

Where can I use Approval workflows?

Approval workflows are located in the action panel on asset pages, positioned on the right-hand side of your screen.

You can use approval workflows to approve assets that are in Draft - so effectively that means you can use an approval workflow for assets in the following draft statuses:

  • [Draft] These are new (draft) assets

  • [Edit Draft] These are existing (draft) assets where you're editing only the asset info, or adding/removing attachments

  • [New Version Draft] These are existing (draft) assets where you're editing both the asset, and (optionally) the asset's info and/or attachments.

I don't see an approval workflow, why is that?

An approval workflow is programmed to appear only when there's an asset on the canvas.
