Completing an approval flow

This article describes how one finishes an approval workflow, once all approvals have been obtained.

Why do I need to mark an approval workflow as completed?

Approval workflows function as an overview, to reflect all the gathered responses in the context of approvals and rejections. When all the necessary approvals have been obtained, it is important to reflect that the approval workflow is now completed.

Two reasons why one needs to mark approval workflows as completed:

  1. A completed approval workflow is required to release your asset.

  2. The fact that the approval workflow has been completed, is also reflected on the asset canvas - to inform anybody visiting that asset of this fact. It acts as a reminder, that should anybody seek to make further changes to the asset (or its info), that the approval workflow should potentially be re-opened.

How to complete an approval workflow

To mark an approval workflow as completed, one scrolls to the top of the approval workflow. There, you'll find a button that reads 'Complete approval flow'. This is only possible if there are no steps that require action, and the Final Approval step has reached its minimum amount of approvals.

Once this button is clicked, steps will reflect an updated status, if applicable:

  • Skipped > stays skipped

  • Minimum approvals reached > Completed

  • Completed > Completed

When an approval workflow is completed, a banner will automatically appear on the asset canvas - to inform all viewers accordingly:
