What's the purpose of a 'Role'?
A role is a rather static classification of a person in a workspace: it typically doesn't change often (or at all). It describes a user's general and typical level of authority and involvement across a workspace. While a role is rather static, somebody's permissions may differ from one project or asset to another. But unless differently specified, that person can expect to have default permissions to public items.
What's the purpose of a 'Permission level'?
Permission levels describe a person's access level & enabled capabilities related to an item (eg: a specific asset, project, or space). Cohero distinguishes four different permission levels, to ensure that users can granularly control who can do what on their asset, project or space.
Roles and their default permissions
In general, Cohero distinguishes between 3 Roles and 4 different permission levels, as the following overview aims to illustrate. And while every role will offer a default set of permissions on public items, a user's specific permissions (on any given asset or project) may be manually altered.
Default permissions per role:
Admin: 'Can Manage' permissions
Member: 'Can Edit' permissions
Guest user: 'Can Comment' permissions
