Conceptually, 'projects' offer a shared context, that explains why (and when) certain assets are created. It's in a project's nature to be temporary - in this article, we'll explain the most important aspects of working with projects in Cohero.
1. Project Page (overview)
The Project Page contains the following elements worth describing:
Up One Level: This is how a user goes up one level. in this case, the user is taken up to the Space page, as the Space is the parent of a project.
Status Indication: This visual indicates the status of this project. Also see element 10 (Project info)
Project Name: This is the name of the project
Action Menu: This offers the basic management controls on this project, such as renaming or deleting a project.
Date Range: This shows the two dates (timespan) between which the project is expected to complete. The date range is editable here.
Project Manager: shows the assigned Project Manager to this project. This person is re-assignable here.
Filter: Apply filters to change the # of assets visible, matching your filter criteria.
Sort: Apply any sort, to change the order in which the assets are displayed.
Display options: Choose a display option, to render the assets either as cards, or as rows in a table. Each layout option will have different functionalities.
Project Info: contains basic information about this project. Opens in a drawer menu.
Attachments: contains supporting files for this project (eg: planning sheets, concepts, contacts). Opens in a drawer menu.
Comments: contains a comment thread, to have project-level conversation. Opens in a drawer menu
Create Asset: thought this button, one can create a new asset in this project from scratch.
2. Projects as a 'Lens' on Assets
It's important to use (and interpret) Projects the right way. In Cohero, projects are essentially 'lenses' through which people can work on assets. They offer context - a reason why that work is going on, and what the aspired end date is.
Important:
Creating an asset in the context of a project does not change an asset's location, or its parent. The Asset continues to live in a Space. A project is not a folder to an asset.
3. Project Info & Status
True to their transient role, projects come and go. But despite their temporary purpose, projects can end up containing valuable information (attachments, conversations), next to the reference to the assets that were created in their context. They represent value. But without removing projects, over time, projects tend to clutter up spaces - which can pose a struggle for our customers.
To help users keep their spaces clean -Cohero has introduced Project Status. By changing the project status (either on project cards, or by using the 'Project info' menu on project pages, users now have the ability to mark projects as 'closed' or 'open'. By default, closed projects are hidden on Space pages, but can easily be surfaced by changing the Project Status filter.
